Canada’s Conservatives Issue Statement on Trudeau – Notley – Horgan Meeting

Ottawa, ON – Shannon Stubbs, Conservative Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, today issued the following statement on the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and British Columbia Premier John Horgan:

“Before tomorrow’s meeting, Conservatives are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tell Canadians when the Trans Mountain Expansion will be built, and what concrete steps he has taken to ensure the project is completed. The Prime Minister previously voted against a motion in the House of Commons calling on his Liberal government to release those details to Canadians, and Conservatives have for months been demanding the Prime Minister discuss the issue directly with Premier Horgan.

“Since approving the project, Prime Minister Trudeau and his Liberal government have demonstrated that they either don’t want or simply don’t care if the Trans Mountain Expansion proceeds. Instead Prime Minister Trudeau continues to make matters worse by imposing policies that harm the Canadian energy sector, like the carbon tax and new regulations that penalize Canadian oil exports.

“The threats of punitive economic measures between provincial governments have escalated significantly. The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association, oil and gas companies, and CEOs of major Canadian banks and investment management portfolios warn it’s a 'crisis'.

"This crisis is about more than even the pipeline itself, it’s about the confidence job-creating businesses have in Canada overall.

"Billions of dollars of investment, billions of dollars in future government revenue for health care, tens of thousands of energy jobs and hundreds of thousands more in other sectors, $400 million in equity partnerships with 43 Indigenous communities, market access for Canadian oil; all of this is at risk because of Justin Trudeau’s failure to take leadership and the total abdication of his responsibility as Prime Minister.”
